Everything's Perpetual is a 2-stepping soundtrack to being trans on the dark, wide streets of Palmerston North. Cuts of dubstep, post-jungle, techno, and footwork mix with unsettling queer sonics. Written on hardware and mixed in audacity, Synthetic Children is keeping it DIY, and increasingly danceable.

Titular track "everything's perpetual" was first recorded and released in 2022 for the Outlier Festival Audio Foundation compilation. It was the first track written by Synthetic Children after "Oneirisim", during lockdown. It's been the anxiously shuffling opener for every Synthetic Children set since, future garage for the Swamp. Following this, "body" unfurls with the signature Volca FM synth line, as spoken word brings a dysphoric consciousness to the album. Built around the same synth lead and poetry from 2019’s self-titled, the track is a reflection on progress, both musically and personally. "witness to CBT" is a devotional movement of crushed 808s, hectic percussion, and shoegaze inspired synths. It cuts punishingly short to a memorial for Tom, my beloved cat.

Violin (Rosa) and delicate melodies (Jess) wash over Synthetic Children in the central track, "u will hollow", with its structure a microcosm of the album, going from the depressive into an exploratory and euphoric second half. "sixtus dub" emerges as a shout-out to Tinyclub, a throbbing dubstep/techno hybrid with field recordings from Beatcamp 2021 popping in and out. Penultimate tune "bad way to god", mixed and dialled in by Josh Finegan (ABG), drops into 160 breakbeat goodness for the most direct and driven track of the album. Synthetic Children and Impress close it out with bubblegum bass / weightless grime anthem - "dreams come thru". This is Synthetic Children at their most optimistic and playful. This is gender euphoria. This is cracking up about the shape of her EQ.

To follow this album release, Synthetic Children will be embarking on a four date tour through Te-Ika-A-Maui, with GTKB, from June 1st-4th, in Hamilton, Auckland, Palmerston North, and Wellington respectively. You can find the event links here
